Batiste & Voile

Batiste and voile are very light weight and semi-sheer even weave fabrics, commonly made of cotton, rayon, polyester or blends. Voile has a crisper hand than batiste. They can be used in apparel such as simple flowing tops and dresses. But the big value that these workhorse fabrics bring to garments is their supporting role as underlining. Underlining with voile or batiste can help stabilize loosely woven fabric, reduce wrinkling, strengthen delicate fabrics, hide seam allowances and hand stitches, without adding a lot of bulk.
