Batik Rayon - Slate Blue Fossil Ferns
The Bali Effect batik is made from the finest quality rayon available in Southeast Asia. This fabric is especially milled with a dense thread count so that it wrinkles less, dyes beautifully and sews easily. The best quality dyes are used to ensure colourfastness wash after wash.
The creation of this fabric involves several complex processes of tjapping, dyeing and hand manipulation. Tjapping is the process of manually applying wax resist to the fabric to create a specific motif. After the dye process, the wax is removed. The fabric is pinned up to dry, resulting in small holes along the selvedges. This is not considered a defect. Occasionally there may be traces of mud or wax resist on the fabric, This comes off when you pre-wash the fabric.
Slate Blue Fossil Ferns is a grey-green blue with a primitive fern motif created with a hand carved wooden tjap. The hand manipulation of the fabric and application of the dyes create striations that run along the straight of grain producing a flattering lengthening effect to your garments. You can also get creative with these "streaks" and cut them on the bias or crosswise grain for chevron or other interesting effects. Try this for lapels, cuffs, pockets, bias binding or other special details. This fabric coordinates with Slate Blue Effect.
