About
Tiki
Tiki is a warp stretch Bengaline woven containing
an elastic fiber known as spandex. Tiki is suitable for
fitted patterns where a woven fabric is recommended but where a
bit of stretch would make the garment more comfortable.
Flat front pants, straight skirts, fitted shirts and jackets are
suitable.
Fabric Care
To prepare the fabric machine wash on knit or
gentle cycle in warm water. We recommend the use of
Eucalan. Dry the fabric on the low heat setting or hang to
dry. Iron on medium setting with a little steam.
There is almost no shrinkage and Tiki does not wrinkle easily.
For garment care wash on the gentle or knit cycle in warm water
and hang to dry. Touch up with the iron on medium
setting.
Cutting and Sewing
Because the stretch runs the
length of the fabric, garments should be laid out and cut on the
crosswise grain so the stretch goes around the body.
A universal machine sewing needle size 80/12
works well with all-purpose polyester thread such as Mettler
Metrosene. Polyester thread is ideal for sewing Tiki
because it has some give to it, however, be careful to wind the
bobbin thread slowly. If it is wound too tight, it will
cause the seams to pucker. To ensure seams lay smoothly
use a small zigzag stitch and avoid stretching the fabric as you
sew. Topstitched hems may have to be stabilized with
interfacing to prevent them from stretching out of shape.
Use the non-stretch grain of the interfacing going around the
hemline. Zippers and pockets will also require
stabilization with strips of fusible interfacing.
