About  Corduroy

This corduroy is a 100% cotton woven with 8 wales (or cords) per inch.    It is suitable for structured jackets, jumpers, tailored pants, vests, straight skirts and children's clothing.

Fabric Care

Corduroy should be prewashed by basting the cut ends together with the right sides together.  Wash on gentle cycle in warm water using Eucalan Woolwash or Lavender.  Machine dry on low heat.  Remove promptly and hang up.  Lightly press with steam on the wrong side being careful not to flatten the pile.

Cutting and Sewing

Like velvet, corduroy has a nap and should be cut double thickness, wrong side in using a "with nap" layout.  The pile wears better if the pieces are cut with the nap going down.  To determine the nap direction run your hand along the straight of grain of the fabric.  One way will feel smoother than the other.  The smoother direction is with the nap going down.

A universal machine sewing needle size 80/12 works well with all-purpose polyester thread such as Mettler Metrosene.  A walking or roller foot will help the fabric feed evenly.
