I wouldn't want to be without this small sewing and knitting gauge (approx. 6 inches long, metal with a movable plastic marking guide).  In fact I have several; one at my sewing machine, one at my pressing table, another by the serger and another in my office desk.  The small size makes the gauge convenient to cart along on shopping trips to measure loose buttons and trims.  The gauge is PERFECT for measuring hems, facings and seams.
