About Lois Ericson
 Lois
Ericson is a creative seamstress and fiber artist
extraordinaire. Where others see obstacles and problems, Lois
sees challenges and opportunities. She thrives on working
through design ideas. "I don't have one piece of paper that says
I know how to do anything," she exclaims. Trial and error are
her companions, her studio is her laboratory. Surrounded by
shelves filled with silks, wools and cottons, drawers bursting
with unusual buttons and found treasures, she experiments.
"I have made many choices in my life and one of the best
choices, has been my preference for sewing. I have, over the
years, tried most artistic media. Sewing has been the most
constant with great possibilities for creativity. When I'm not
sewing, I'm involved with other art work; bookbinding,
contemporary watercolors, collagé and writing.
I have a real need to be unique in my life and work.
Manipulating and creating texture from ordinary cloth has been
of particular interest to me. Combining texture and print (using
stencils, fabric paint, silk screen and discharge) with
traditional sewing techniques multiplies the possibilities."
She frequently writes articles for Threads magazine. Her Design
& Sew Patterns collection are sold all over the United States as
well as overseas. Lois's artwork also appears in designs
of handmade batik rayon fabric from Bali from The Batik Butik.
